All aboard! Join Ruby on her adventures through different parts of the world to observe animals and learn how they survive. Use that knowledge to transform your Animobile to solve problems.
This game was extremely special because we got to work with Make-a-Wish Wisconsin to fulfill Abby's wish. Abby is a young girl who wished to be in a video game. We created a character for her, let her pick the name, and had a big celebration at the office where she got to meet everyone. Check out the link above for more about it. I also added some pictures in the slideshow.
We had a lot of fun making this game. One our challenges was coming up with all the different things the player could learn about an animal and duplicate with their transforming Animobile vehicle. We needed a slightly different mechanic for each encounter.
What this meant was we needed to have all the mechanics and animal traits figured out ASAP. Ilustration couldn't draw animals without knowing which traits we might point out, and we needed to start making assets for the Animobile itself right away. We worked with the client to make sure all animals had accurate trait facts associated with them, and that it was easy for the player to perform all the different mechanics.
A Lesson Learned...
When you have such an art-heavy game like this one, commit to more decisions early on. Much of the design and content needs to be front-loaded because illustration needs to start their work immediately.
