Molecubes had a rough start. We were trying to make 'lean games' by coming up with small ideas where we could have a playable, finished game at the end of every little sprint. This proved impossible providing the scope we chose. It was much too ambitious for the timeline.
Thankfully, we could revisit the game and give it all the love it deserved. One of the hardest things we faced was how acids and bases neutralize each other. The pH scale is a logarithmic scale and it wasn't so simple for us to come up with game rules on how puddles of different pH would balance out when mixed. It led to long discussions and lots of research on the topic. We finally settled on something that's super simplified and not too realistic in order to make the game work.
A Lesson Learned...
Tiny timelines deserve tiny scopes, and if someone wants you to make a game about the pH scale, run!
